And it happens again. Coincidence laced with something I can’t quite put my finger on. Blind choices that converge and lead to a startling connection whose significance is unfairly withheld. (More on those blind choices and connections here, here and here.)

I’d had a snapshot of Damien Rice as my cover photo on Facebook for over a month until a couple of days ago, when I arbitrarily decided it was time for a change.

Probably inspired by my post on the 165th anniversary of Jane Eyre, I knew I wanted words as opposed to images this time around. Or rather, words as image. So, just as arbitrarily, I reached for my Riverside Anthology of Literature, and proceeded to leaf through it, revisiting some old favorites in search of a meaningful passage to turn into snapshot.

Prufrock (Eliot) as usual, was the strongest contender. That is, until I chanced upon and remembered Ulysses (Tennyson), which has had me since high school. Even before that. Since Dead Poets Society, really. But consciously and faithfully (to both meaning and language) since high school. It’s worth noting I hadn’t thought of it, read it or heard it in quite a while.

Snapshot taken and duly instagrammed, it became my new cover photo.
