Again, so I won't forget...
…what got me here.
(With a little help from Dave Matthews Band this time around, whose great lyrics brought on some teary-eyed nostalgia)
I don’t want to be an ant, you know? I mean, it’s like, we go through life with our antennas bouncing off one another continuously on ant autopilot, with nothing really human required of us. Stop. Go. Walk here. Drive there. All action basically for survival. All communication simply to keep this ant colony buzzing along in an efficient, polite manner. “Here’s your change.” “Paper or plastic?” “Credit or debit?” “You want ketchup with that?” I don’t want a straw. I want real human moments. I wanna see you. I want you to see me. I don’t wanna give that up. I don’t want to be an ant, you know?
(Waking Life)
He wakes up in the morning
Does his teeth bite to eat and he’s rolling
Never changes a thing
The week ends the week begins
She thinks, we look at each other
Wondering what the other is thinking
But we never say a thing
And these crimes between us grow deeperGoes to visit his mommy
She feeds him well his concerns
He forgets them
And remembers being small
Playing under the table and dreamingTake these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and dieDriving in on this highway
All these cars and upon the sidewalk
People in every direction
No words exchanged
No time to exchangeAnd all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennas waving
We all do it the same
We all do it the same wayCandyman tempting the thoughts of a
Sweet tooth tortured by the weight loss
Program cutting the corners
Loose end, loose end, cut, cut
On the fence, could not to offend
Cut, cut, cut, cutTake these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and die(Ants Marching - Dave Matthews Band)
