Jason Isaacs and Robin Wright Penn as Damian and Diana in Nine Lives

Diana: Five minutes with you, and I just feel like my life is a figment of my imagination.

Damian: I know.

Diana: No, you don’t know. No, you don’t know. You’ve just always been this fucking thing that swallows me.

Damien Rice is ready to step in and fill a hole whenever I need him to. You can’t ask much more from your favorite singer/songwriter. And you need not ask - that’s precisely what made him your favorite in the first place.

The Accidental Clean Slate

Written by Iris Watts Hirideyo ( Contact the author of this post )
Published on February 26th, 2009 @ 09:18:03 pm, using 266 words, 55 views

A blessing in disguise, we decided it was, my off duty rescuer and I. My designated rock this afternoon, when I came undone. And what a coming undone it was. The kind that’ll split you in two - split you into one who cries and can’t help crying and sees no end to the crying and one who looks on at the storm in a teacup, sympathizes and feels ashamed of the entire ridiculous scene.

We all have scenes we remember making and continue to make. We count ourselves lucky for small audiences and for the people who are able and willing to show us the angle we can’t find by ourselves. 53º may have been the (borrowed) angle today. Marking an end and then a beginning… maybe? Some cyber glitch or my own too fast unthinking click wiping the slate clean when I couldn’t have done it myself. A helping hand (like the colorful helping hand Facebook karma) wiping my desk(top) clean of that which it decides I have no use for, teaching me the hard, painful way to let things go, and let things be. We are more than words, my half naked rescuer and I.

I have suddenly been made to swerve from my history of matching history only with what’s registered and handcuffing the two. History is in what one feels and in what one builds.

It’s a new era, my rescuer tells me. And I believe him wholeheartedly.

Here are the resulting images.

This is the first batch of photos from my 48 hours in São Paulo, where I went in search of quiet, newness and most importantly, Damien Rice.

I found the quiet (soundproof windows), the newness (there’s something about a place you can’t easily find your way around that fits you with what I call the discovery mindset, which can point you towards finding your inner bearings to boot.) Damien, you can find in photos and videos on recent and upcoming posts. All shot by yours truly. :>

Stop talking about love (The Last Kiss)

Written by Iris Watts Hirideyo ( Contact the author of this post )

I’m not skilled in the art of pinpointing exactly where things go wrong. I’m a contributor to the art of actually making things go wrong, I’m sure, but that’s about as far as I figure in the territory of wrong-going.

This was an evening set aside for writing that became an evening devoted to putting a lid on myself and at the same time struggling to prevail over that lid like a jack-in-the-box would. Wanting in and out, if that makes any sense.

Whenever I feel that brand of OFF, one of my current favorite things to do is to click on the old Stumble! button. The verdict hasn’t come down yet on whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, that Stumble Upon… A source of inpiration or a distraction from buckling down and actually getting something done. But tonight it’s been good. The old ’stumble butt’ ;) brought me a scene I happen to love and haven’t had a chance to think about in a while. Enjoy!

- Stop talking about love. Every asshole in the world says he loves somebody. It means nothing.

- It’s true.

- Still doesn’t mean anything. What you feel only matters to you. It’s what you do to people you say you love, that’s what matters. It’s the only thing that counts.

Damien Rice Videos - São Paulo, Brazil

Two more videos from Damien Rice’s January 30th performance in São Paulo, Brazil. The first is Volcano shot up until the moment Damien invited the crowd to go up onstage and be his choir. Needless to say, mayhem ensued. The second is part of Damien rendition of Tom Jobim’s Desafinado as he was joined onstage by Brazilian musician Max de Castro.

Se você disser que eu desafino amor,
Saiba que isso em mim provoca imensa dor
Só privilegiados tem ouvido igual ao seu,
Eu possuo apenas o que Deus me deu
No fundo do peito bate calado,
Que no peito dos desafinados,
Também bate um coração
